Meta Runner Wiki

Meta Runner: Source is a comic released by GLITCH. This comic is issued to be the stated prequel on how Tari came to be and based on what is shown there might be multiple issues on the comic in general, though as of right now it is to be determined.

Chapter One: Hello World[]

It starts with a deranged Dr. James Sheridan preparing to send something back out, he recounts how "they" all laughed and called him a failure, before turning to a human Tari.

It cuts to the previous year, T.A.R.I is in A.I. form and Sheridan is more mentally stable. Sheridan uploads first-person shooter simulations to Tari's environment. Tari narrates, she always followed the Doctor's instructions, mastering every game she played. But she always wondered, if tomorrow would be different.

The next day, Sheridan finds T.A.R.I.'s host, Lucinia Porter. Although not mentioned in the comic, Lucinia was searching the TAS Corp labs for something to boost her performance after her boss, Derek Lucks, neglects her. Sheridan explains to Lucinia that he is going to upload T.A.R.I to her Meta Runner Arm, which should boost her performance.

Now downloaded into Lucinia's arm, Tari witnesses all of Lucinia's memories, and all the people in her life. They both comment how they feel different after the upload. Sheridan instructs Lucinia to play Ultra Mania Jump, remarking if she doesn't play well, he'll lose his job. Tari then guides Lucinia, which lands her at 54.32 seconds, which is 5 seconds off her personal best. Tari talks how she has never played with others before, even if she's just a program directing Lucinia's moments. Lucinia compliments Tari, which the latter expresses her gratitude over. Lucinia queries if she can talk, but Sheridan simply replies saying she can, but only to follow instructions. Tari sadly shuts off.

But instead of going to sleep mode, Tari decides to keep the connection open, and achieves the freedom to keep on playing. She goes into Battle Blaze. She spots Masa Shimamoto, recognising him from Lucinia's memories. But Masa shoots her, Tari then decides that if he wants to play, they can play. She throws a smoke bomb and sneak attacks on Masa. He initially assumes it's Lucinia, thinking it was one of her smoke plays. But Tari just says that she's nobody and runs off, Masa sends her a friend request. Delighted, Tari begins playing with Lucinia's friends.

In the final phase of Project Blue, Sheridan creates a whole new integration program that allows total synchronisation between the host and the A.I., Lucinia is confused at first, but Sheridan plugs her in. She screams, then warps into a space. She then meets Tari, face to face for the first time. They immediately hit it off, with Lucinia finding out Tari has been playing with her friends, with Lucinia being happy for Tari. Sheridan then accidentally overloads the neural uplink past it's safety limits, causing an explosion which also led to the digital landscape breaking apart. In danger, Tari urged Lucinia to escape into the server to prevent her from dying, but the latter instead worries for the former. Tari reassures her that while her CPU and sub-systems will survive, her memories will not. Hearing this, Lucinia gives her arm (representing a piece of her mind) to Tari as a memento. The two hug each other, promising that they will find each other again. The explosion happens, wiping Tari's memories and fragmenting Lucinia's mind.

Awakening two years after the explosion in a human body, Tari sets out into the events of "Wrong Warp". Approaching the TASCorp building, she feels a sense of familiarity.

Trivia[]

  • This comic shows how Lucinia's mind was fragmented, Lucinia going into the server represented her fragments getting lost in the server and Tari receiving her Meta Runner Arm representing her fragments fusing with Tari.
  • Lucinia is shown to be warping when meeting Tari.
    • This, canonically, makes Lucinia the first character to warp into cyberspace.
